Many people continue to associate St.Helens with primary industries that have either declined or fallen - while the mines are gone and employment within the glass industry has been dramatically downsized since its heyday, this outdated image belies a much more vibrant reality with regard to St.Helens' economy and business base.
St.Helens remains a hub of manufacturing excellence and innovation, not least within the global glass industry.
At the same time, there are a number of other firms who are market leaders in their own sectors, a new crop of businesses in newer industries, and a host of start-ups facilitated by the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI), who also have a great story to tell.
The aim of this theme is to showcase the Borough’s thriving business environment, evidenced by the diverse range of successful and innovative businesses based here.
The title refers to the one positive contemporary attribute that people overwhelmingly associate with St.Helens - namely top level Rugby League success - using this as an appropriate and intelligible metaphor for business success, i.e. a tough, highly competitive environment, where positive results rely on both teamwork and individual technical flair etc.
