Council gets Gold award.
For the second time running, St Helens Council has been awarded the prestigious Investor in People award which recognises excellence in people management and development. It means that the Council is the only metropolitan council in the North West to get such a high score.
The award consists of 196 measures of performance and the Council did so well that it was judged to have reached the “gold standard” which means that it met more than 165 of the indicators.
The award is based around extensive interviews with staff at all levels of the organisation so is a real reality check on what it is like to work at the Council and how staff are developed to do their jobs.
Key strengths identified include:
- Strong and supportive leadership resulting in staff at all levels feeling empowered to make decisions
- The Council’s core values are very strong and well understood by all
- Staff feel valued and recognised both by the council and the community they serve
- Training and development is comprehensive and closely linked to the Council’s corporate aims and objectives
Says Council Leader Brian Spencer: “This is tremendous news and underlines out total commitment to our staff who provide such a first class services to local residents.
